Another Russian mobile operator canceled roaming in the occupied Crimea

Russian mobile operator MTS cancels roaming in the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Sevastopol. The company became the last of the major operators to take such a step. The decision was announced by the Federal Antimonopoly Service, which last year initiated a criminal case against the company demanding the abolition of roaming on the occupied peninsula.

The agency noted that MTS will cancel additional fees for its communication services in the TOT of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol no later than June 30 - phone calls, SMS and the Internet. Now all this will be charged at standard rates, and the changes will be implemented in stages. The operator informed the service that it would voluntarily comply with its order and stop the court appeal.

MTS was the last Big Four operator to keep additional charges for subscribers in occupied Crimea.

In early March, Holos Kryma reported that a number of Russian mobile operators had canceled roaming in the occupied Crimea: it was about Megafon and its subsidiary virtual operator Yota, as well as Rostelecom, Beeline, Tele2 (T2 Mobile) and VTB Mobile. In addition, at the same time it became known that the mobile operator MTS appealed in Russian courts against the order of the Antimonopoly Service to cancel roaming in Crimea.
