Quarantine regime established in occupied Crimea on an area of more than a million hectares

In the occupied Crimea, 18 quarantine phytosanitary zones have been created to combat the brown marble bug, a dangerous quarantine pest that poses a threat to agriculture. These zones cover an area of 1.2 million hectares.

In occupied Sevastopol, 6 such zones were created with a total area of 34704 hectares.

The Azov-Black Sea Interregional Department of Rosselkhoznadzor reports that the appearance of the brown marble bug negatively affects the quantity and quality of the crop. Its impact is especially noticeable on fruit and vegetable crops and grapes. Damaged fruits become unsuitable for consumption or processing.

The only effective way to combat it is chemical. The main blow to the pest is inflicted in the spring, when the first generation develops.

In March, employees of the Azov-Black Sea Interregional Department of Rosselkhoznadzor discovered western flower thrips in 6 out of 36 inspected greenhouses in the TOT of Crimea and Sevastopol.

According to the head of the organization Arsen Arziev, this insect spoils the harvest and affects a large number of indoor crops. The occupation structures imposed a phytosanitary zone on the farms where it was found, obliging the owners to take measures to eliminate and prevent the spread of the pest.
