Future Chancellor Merz is ready to provide the Taurus, provided that
Possible future German Chancellor, head of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz has called for the supply of German-Swedish long-range cruise missiles TAURUS to Ukraine, which is defending itself against Russian aggression, subject to approval of these supplies. This was reported by DW
"I have always said that I would do it (agree to supply Ukraine with TAURUS missiles - Ed.), but only in agreement with European partners," he said, responding to a question in the Caren Miosga program on ARD on Sunday evening, April 13.
According to DW, Merz has already informed that some countries, including European ones, are already supplying Kyiv with cruise missiles:
"The British are doing it, the French are doing it, the Americans are doing it anyway." The deliveries have to be approved and, if they are, "Germany has to take part in them," the likely new head of the German government emphasized.
It is noted that from the point of view of Merz, the Ukrainian army "needs to get out of the defense, because it is only reacting."
For three years, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been "only able to react," "and it's time for them to be able to determine part of what is happening," the conservative politician said. He mentioned the destruction of the most important land connections between Russia and the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, which are important for the logistics of the Russian Armed Forces, as a possible area of missiles' use.
