Monument to Russian "family saints" erected in occupied Armyansk
In occupied Armyansk, a monument to the Russian semi-mythical saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom, whom the Russian church calls "blessed princes" and considers the patrons of the family hearth, was erected near a dry fountain.
The monument appeared in Armyansk in accordance with the Historical Memory project as part of the "inter-municipal cooperation with sister cities" of the Chelyabinsk region of the Russian Federation, which has been ongoing since 2015. During this time, 6 monuments were transferred to the occupied Crimean city.
With the blessing of the "Bishop of Dzhankoy and Razdolnensky" from the Russian Orthodox Church Alexy (Ovsyannikov), "Dean of the Krasnoperekopsk District" Archpriest Igor Okolita, archpriest Vasily Cherkavsky, rector of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Armyansk, and Archpriest Igor Formazyuk, rector of the Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in Armyansk, consecrated the monument.
The opening ceremony was attended by the "head of the Armenian City Council" Igor Nizhnik, "head of the administration of Armyansk" Vasily Telizhenko, as well as a few guests and residents of the occupied city. The ceremony was also attended by Igor Mikhailov, chairman of the council of chiefs of military units, deputy director of the Avangard Center for Patriotic Education of Children and Youth in the Chelyabinsk region, who did not miss the opportunity to link the installation of a "peaceful" monument to the Russian war against Ukraine, allegedly for the sake of "traditional family values."
In addition, regional clerics of the Russian Orthodox Church expressed hope that local residents would look at the sculptural image of the "Orthodox patrons of the family" as an example of marital fidelity and "turn their prayers to them for the strengthening and preservation of marriage."
