The occupation FSB tried to cover up the murder of Ukrainian Navy officer Stanislav Karachevsky

The murder of Major Stanislav Karachevsky of the Ukrainian Navy became the second recorded murder of a Ukrainian serviceman by the occupiers in Crimea in the first weeks of the occupation of the peninsula in 2014.

The death of the officer, who remained faithful to his military oath and Ukraine, recalled on the page of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, on the official page at Facebook, on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of his death.

Major Karachevsky was a graduate of the Nakhimov Naval Academy in Sevastopol. At the time of his murder, he was the head of the operational department of the headquarters of the 10th Naval Aviation Brigade in the village of Novofedorivka. After 2014, this brigade was named after the Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Ihor Bedzai.

During the occupation of Crimea, Stanislav Karachevsky participated in organizing the relocation of personnel and equipment to the mainland of Ukraine. on the evening of April 6, 2014, returning with Captain Artem Yermolenko to the hostel in the village of Novofedorivka, they were stopped at a checkpoint by Russian military. When the Ukrainian officers turned around and headed in the opposite direction without engaging in conflict, the Russians began to pursue them.

"Junior Sergeant of the Russian Marine Corps Evgeny Zaitsev opened fire with an AK-74 rifle in the back and head of Major Karachevsky right in his room on the fifth floor of the dormitory where the families of the Ukrainian officers lived. The fatal wounds were evidence of premeditation, and the traces of blood leading to the lower floors were evidence of an attempt to hide the body and destroy evidence. The occupying FSB tried to cover up the murder. Only thanks to the quick reaction of the comrades and the wife of the deceased, the incident became publicly known," the text says.

At the same time, Captain Artem Yermolenko was detained by the Russian military, stripped, tied up and handed over to the occupation special services. He was tortured during interrogations in Sevastopol, where he spent a week in captivity, after which he was released."

"They were chased in the dormitory, Karachevsky was shot dead on the fifth floor of the dormitory in the middle of the corridor," commented Brigade Commander Ihor Bedzai in one of the newscasts on the murder of Stanislav Karachevsky.

Stanislav Karachevsky, who was 32 years old at the time of his death, is survived by his wife Olga and two children. After the death of her husband, his widow joined the military service in the same brigade in which Stanislav served, continuing his life's work in Mykolaiv."

"This tragic episode once again shows that the occupation of Crimea from the very first days was accompanied by violence, armed attacks, and persecution of Ukrainian servicemen and civilians. The murder of Stanislav Karachevsky is not an exception, but a manifestation of the systematic practice of gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law by the occupying power. We remember everyone who died while remaining loyal to Ukraine. We call on the international community to increase pressure on Russia to ensure justice, punishment of the perpetrators and de-occupation of the Crimean peninsula", - said  the Representative Office of the President of Ukraine in the AR of Crimea.

Previously "Holos Krymawrote that Serhiy Kokurin was the first military man to die in the first weeks of the occupation of the Crimean peninsula.

Council of Veterans of Crimea of the Crimean Regional Council of Ukrainians of Crimea maintains a book of memory of the deceased Crimeans, annually updating the data and publishing them on the website "Voice  of Crimea".
