A historic building in Yalta has become a shelter for the homeless

In occupied Yalta, the four-story historic building of Villa Dosia (1912, house No. 1 on Sechenova Street), also known as Teslenko's boarding house, is being destroyed and decaying.

Despite the status of a cultural heritage site of regional significance, the building has become a shelter for homeless people who periodically stay there and relieve themselves.

Over the past years, fires have been extinguished several times in the building.

According to Evgenia Rostovtseva, Head of the Department of State Supervision of Cultural Heritage Objects of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea, the Teslenko Villa has had an owner since 2022 , but he does not fulfill his obligations to protect and restore the historic building. Currently, the building is being prepared to be seized by the "republic" through the "court"; in case of a successful deal, it will be sold to private hands.

As it turned out, the first owner of the villa was Vera Teslenko, the wife of Vasily Teslenko, a state councilor and head of the road construction department in Yalta. Already in 1913, the 12-room boarding house was sold for unknown reasons.

During the Soviet occupation and after the restoration of Ukraine's independence, the building housed the neurology clinic of the Crimean Republican Research Institute of Physical Therapy and Medical Climatology named after I.M. Sechenov. I.M. Sechenov.

Recently, the "Voice of Crimea" reported that more than 40% of cultural heritage sites in the TOT of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea need to be repaired in the next 5 years.
